Pledro blog

Built in Nottingham

Who is behind Pledro, where the company actually is, and what is finished versus what is not. Written so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

The short answer

Pledro is made by Pledro Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, number 17397458, based in Nottingham. The app is in closed beta on TestFlight, runs entirely on free Grind Coins, and is not in the App Store yet.

Most software you use is from somewhere you could not name. That is fine for a photo editor. It is less fine for something you are about to commit money to, and less fine again for something that is going to read your heart rate.

So: Pledro is made by Pledro Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales, company number 17397458, based in Nottingham. You can look that up on the Companies House register without asking us anything, which is the point of saying it.

Why say where you are?

Because where a company sits decides which rules it answers to.

Pledro is written for the UK. Entries are in pounds. The age rules follow the UK's direction on access to social products by under-16s. The privacy notice is a UK GDPR document rather than an adapted one, and the site is measured with no per-visitor identifier at all — no cookie, no local storage, no fingerprint — which is why there is no consent banner on this page.

None of that is remarkable if you are a UK company building for the UK. It is quite a lot of work if you are not, which is why plenty of apps in this space simply do not, and why "which country's rules apply to this?" is a fair question to ask any of them.

Nottingham is not a marketing decision. It is where the company is.

What is actually finished

The useful version of a company page is the one that tells you what is not built yet. Here it is.

Built and running. The whole challenge loop: create, enter, train, verify, results, receipts. Ten challenge types across four formats. Wearable verification, server-side, with no manual-entry path anywhere. Standings, discussion, profiles, the social feed, stories, reels cut on the phone, direct messages and group chats with voice notes and GIFs in them. A health dashboard that reads back what your wearable recorded and estimates nothing. Two-factor authentication, a device list, and an alert on every sign-in from a device we have not seen before. Limits, breaks and privacy defaults. Every reward split evenly among everyone who completes.

Built, and deliberately switched off. Real-money entries. The wallet, the entry limits, the reward arithmetic — all built, all tested, and behind a switch that stays off until real-money entries are authorised and an authorised partner is in place to hold the money, because it should never be us holding it.

Not built. Android. Live in-app workout tracking. Team battles. Advertising.

Not chosen. The partner charity that receives 90% of a fund when nobody completes. It will be named on this site before the first paid entry is ever taken, and the code refuses to complete a challenge in that state rather than proceeding without one.

Why the beta is free

Every account today runs on Grind Coins — free, unbuyable, not money. Not as a promotion, and not because the money features are unfinished. They are finished. They are switched off because switching them on is somebody else's decision to sign, and we would rather run a free product for as long as that takes than ship a money product on our own opinion of whether it is allowed.

The app is in closed beta on TestFlight and invites go out in waves. There is no App Store badge anywhere on this site because there is nothing behind it yet, and a badge that does not lead to a listing is the smallest lie a company can tell and still be telling one.

If a thing is not live, this site says it is not live. That rule has cost us better-sounding sentences and it is not up for discussion.

What we will not do

No invented numbers. No user counts, no testimonials, no press logos, no five-star ratings. If a figure appears on this site, it is real or it is a worked example clearly marked as one. Structured data on these pages carries no rating and no review, because we have none and inventing them is the one search offence that is also a lie.

No date we cannot keep. Real-money entries are coming, 18+, UK, pending authorisation. That sentence is deliberately short of a month.

No claims about your health. Pledro is about follow-through, not wellness. It will not tell you it will make you happier, calmer or healthier, because we do not know that and it is not ours to say.

Get in touch

Genuinely — this is a company small enough that a message reaches a person who can act on it. If something on the site is unclear, that is a fault in our writing and we would like to know. If something in the app is wrong, the receipt on any finished challenge carries a challenge ID, and Get help puts the record in front of somebody.

Support has every route in. The terms and the privacy policy are the two documents that actually bind us, and both are written to be read rather than to be scrolled past.
