Age rules and safety at Pledro

Sixteen to sign up, eighteen for real-money entries when they arrive. What that means for accounts, privacy defaults, and the limits that apply by default.

The short answer

You must be 16 or over to create a Pledro account and use free Grind Coins. Real-money entries, which are not live yet, will be 18+ and UK only. Accounts under 18 are private and stay private, and every age rule is enforced on our servers rather than in the app.

Pledro sits at the point where fitness, social and money meet, and each of those brings its own duty of care. This guide is the age rules and the protections in one place, including the ones you never have to ask for.

How old do you have to be?

Sixteen to create an account and to enter challenges with free Grind Coins.

That floor was raised from thirteen in August 2026, following the UK government's direction on access to social products by under-16s. It is a floor rather than a setting: it can be raised, and the way the check is built means it cannot be quietly lowered.

Eighteen for real-money entries, UK only, on a verified account. Those are not live today.

How is the age rule actually enforced?

On the server, not in the app.

Date of birth is asked for at sign-up. Everything that follows — whether real-money surfaces exist for an account at all, what an account may enter, what privacy settings it can change — is decided by our servers rather than by the app asking politely. A modified client cannot talk its way past it, because the client is not the thing making the decision.

If we learn an account belongs to somebody under the minimum age, we close it, and the terms say so.

What is different about an account under 18?

It is private, and it stays private. Every new Pledro account starts private, whatever the age; an account under 18 cannot be switched to public. Private means invisible rather than blurred — not a locked door with your name on it.

There is no money surface at all. Not a disabled button, not a "coming soon" tile with a price on it. Free Grind Coins are the whole of it.

A break pauses entering altogether. On an adult account a break pauses real-money entries. On an under-18 account, where free Grind is all there is, it pauses entering full stop — because a protection that only pauses the thing you do not have is not a protection.

Beyond that, the general posture is the one the UK's Children's Code asks for: collect the minimum, default to the private setting, and do not design engagement mechanics that work on a fifteen-year-old's judgement. There are no streak bonuses, no rewards for entering more often, and no multipliers on Pledro at any age, which removes that question rather than answering it.

What protections apply to everybody?

Limits that are on by default. When real-money entries arrive, a weekly cap applies without anybody going to look for it, and there are server-side ceilings on a single entry — £250 into a public challenge, £100 into a private one. Those live on our servers, so they hold whatever the app asks for.

Limits you set yourself. A per-challenge cap of your own, a lower weekly one, or a break that pauses entering until it ends.

Lowering is immediate. Raising is not encouraged. A lower limit takes effect the moment you set it. We will never prompt you to raise one, and there is no offer, bonus or nudge anywhere in the product that would benefit from you doing so.

There is more on all of it, in more detail, on Looking after you.

What about your data?

Activity data is read to verify challenges, and health data is treated as the special category of personal information that it legally is: collected narrowly, kept for a reason, and never used to sell you something.

The site itself is measured without any per-visitor identifier at all — no cookie, no local storage, no fingerprint — which is why there is no cookie banner on this page. The full account, including what the app holds and how to delete it, is in the privacy policy.

Who can see what you do?

You choose, and the private answer is the default.

Profiles can be public or private. Challenges can be public, invite-only, or run by Pledro. Somebody tagging you in a post, or adding you to one as a collaborator, sends you a request — their post publishes immediately, but your name appears on it only if you accept, and if you decline nobody is told. You can take your name off again later.

And if something goes wrong?

Every finished challenge produces a receipt carrying a challenge ID. Open it and use Get help: the record travels with it and a person picks it up. If it is not about a specific challenge, Support lists every way to reach us.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum age for Pledro?

Sixteen, to create an account and enter challenges with free Grind Coins. It was raised from thirteen in August 2026, in line with the UK’s direction on under-16 access to social products.

Can under-18s enter real-money challenges?

No, and there is no route to it. Real-money entries will be 18+ and UK only, checked against a verified identity, and enforced on our servers so the rule holds whatever the app asks for.

Are under-18 accounts private?

Yes, and they stay that way. Every new account starts private regardless of age; an account under 18 cannot be made public.

Can I set my own limits?

Yes. You can set a per-challenge cap, lower the weekly one, or take a break. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately, and we will never prompt you to raise one.
